What is a Schrader Valve?

A Schrader valve is a type of valve commonly used in EVAP systems, tyres, and air conditioning systems. It consists of a valve core that can be removed to allow access to the system. In EVAP systems, the Schrader valve is located at the service port and must be removed to introduce smoke for leak testing.

Why Remove the Schrader Valve for Smoke Testing?

When performing EVAP smoke leak testing, the Schrader valve core must be removed from the service port to allow smoke to enter the system. The valve core would otherwise restrict smoke flow and prevent proper testing. After testing is complete, the valve core must be reinstalled to seal the system.

How to Use:

  1. Locate the EVAP service port on the vehicle
  2. Remove the service port cap
  3. Thread the Schrader valve remover tool onto the service port
  4. Turn tool counter-clockwise to remove valve core
  5. Store valve core safely during testing
  6. Perform smoke leak test
  7. After testing, reinstall valve core by turning tool clockwise
  8. Replace service port cap

Benefits:

  • Quick Access – Fast removal and installation of valve cores
  • No Refrigerant Loss – Proper tool prevents system venting
  • Professional Results – Ensures proper EVAP testing procedure
  • Time-Saving – Streamlines smoke testing workflow
  • Essential Tool – Required for proper EVAP smoke testing

Maintenance:

  • Keep tool clean and free from debris
  • Store in protective case when not in use
  • Inspect threads regularly for wear
  • Replace if threads become damaged
